Kate's work as a choreographer and performer has been seen internationally and nationally throughout Australia.
She is a recognised artistic leader with a clear sense of purpose and direction. Kate is committed to developing diverse cultural practice for new and existing audiences for live performance. Since graduating from the VCA School of Dance in 1994 she has been working consistently in the arts industry as a performer, director and creative collaborator across different artistic mediums.
As the Artistic Director of KAGE from 1997-2017, Kate produced and directed over 20 successful seasons of new work. As a freelance choreographer, dramaturge and director she has also made many new works across dance, theatre and musical theatre productions.
Kate enagages collaborative partners on all projects. Previously, these have included artists from different disciplines (circus, opera, architecture) and from different cultural backgrounds (South Sudan, Congo, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islands). She has been able to successfully tackle taboo topics (eg. Alzheimer’s disease, youth detention, refugees, challenging gender stereotypes) and produce live performances which strongly resonate with people, actively promoting discussion and initiating positive social change.
Kate’s work has been performed in every corner of Australia taking works to over 85 different venues across every state and territory ranging from art galleries, nightclubs, traditional theatres and outdoor locations.
Many of her works have won industry awards and national and international recognition. The awards include the Canberra Critics Circle Award for Dance, a Green Room Award for Female Emerging Artist in Dance and joint winner of the Eva Czajor memorial Award, which salutes women directors. Kate was awarded the Paris residency at the Cite Internationale des Arts in 2001.
In 2013 Kate was recognised in The Australian Financial Review and Westpac Group 100 Women of Influence Awards.
